The Toulon Tournament is an invitational tournament for the stars of the future to play in and to be exact it's a sub-21 tournament. This match featured three time Toulon Tournament winners Portugal who opened up their campaign with a 2 to 0 win over Mexico earlier in the week against Chile who started there tournament with a 3 to 0 loss to host country France. It was imperative for Chile to try and gain a win over Portugal because no one wants to start a tournament with two losses, but Portugal would prove to be a tough foe for the Chileans. Chile pressed hard against the Portuguese in the first half as they were on top of them for the first part of the half, not allowing the Portuguese to really have a substantial shot at goal. In the 29TH minute, Portugal would get their first chance of the game when Chilean forward Nicolas Castillo gave up a costly penalty. Porto player Leandro Silva would take the penalty and even though he didn't miss, Alvaro Salazar almost made the save.
Heading into the second half, it was much of the same as Portugal held on to their 1 to 0 lead until a mistake in the midfield lead to a second goal for the Portuguese in the 65TH minute. Helder Costa would receive the ball off of a mistake and he would turn on the jets beating out all the defenders and then he slips the ball past Salazar for the second goal. A couple of minutes later, Chile's defense would give away a costly ball to Bruno Fernandes who drove the ball towards goal and fired away what would be Portugal's third goal of the game. Then out of the blue, Chile caught the Portuguese defense sleeping as Nicolas Castillo was in the right place at the right time near the net to easily knock in Chile's first goal of the tournament. Unfortunately for Chile, they wouldn't get a second goal and now the team has to work harder as they have two games left to try and create a comeback. For Portugal, the team awaits China on the 27TH of May as the team tries to advance to the knockout stage.
