For Denmark and Sweden, there is no world cup in the future, but that doesn't mean the two teams couldn't play to prepare themselves for Euro qualifiers when those eventually come around in September. For Sweden, it would have been nice to see them in the World Cup, but unfortunately they met a Portugal squad that wanted it more. For Denmark, they are also looking to the future with some young stars and a chance to reignite a scandinavian rivalry that can get ugly between the teams as they met at Parken Stadium today in Copenhagen, Denmark. For most of the first half, it looked like young star Martin Braithwaite was going to outshine the Swedish veteran Zlatan Ibrahimović as Denmark had some chances near the net, but they couldn't muster any real shot. The same could be said for Sweden who started to come to life late in the first half, but they couldn't score.
The second half was much like the first half except for the fact that Zlatan was substituted before the half actually started. Both teams were creating chances and Braithwaite was having an excellent game offesnively as he proved to be dangerous in the late minutes of the game. Going into the 90TH minute, it looked as if the game were going to end in a 0-0 draw, but that would change. Braithwaite started to gain some momentum in extra time and eventually it would pay off as the goalkeeper tackled Braithwaite in the bo forcing the referee to award the penalty to Denmark. Liverpool defender and Denmark captain Daniel Agger would step to the plate to take the penalty and he completely fooled the goalie who went to the left and Daniel buried the ball in the right hand side of the net. Denmark walked off with the 1-0 win, but there is still some work to do for both teams.
